THE COLOSSEUM OF ROME

Colosseum was called Flavian Amphitheatre it was made during the first century. This was the time when roman empire was stretched from Britten to Africa. In that golden time of Roman empire it was made the King Titus in 80 century and it instantly became the center of the roman empire.
The making of Colosseum was started in 72 century and was finished in 80 century, King Vespasian was the one who started the construction and it was his son Titus who finished The Great Colosseum of Rome.
Reason of creating Colosseum:
In the beginning it was created for entertainment only and first they used animal fights with humans, it started from humans killing animals and went to the level of humans killing humans. The opening ceremony games that started lasted for 100 days and in that time hundreds of animals and over 2000 gladiators lost their lives.
The games in Colosseum were held hold day and in the morning time they held comedy shows and showed unusual animals brought from around the world. After the lunch fights between professional fighters were started. In the majority of games death played an important role. The contestants in these games were either slaves or high ranked criminals. They were supposed to fight each other or with any animal, in both cases one of the contestant had to die.
The weapons used be gladiators were: Swords, Spears, Shields and Nets, Ax and Hammers. Sometimes Roman Women also used to fight in the Colosseum but it was only for display of their sexy bodies and a twist in regular fights for some freshness in the mode. There is also a theory that the colosseum was used to punish the people who changed to Christianity, they were made lion’s food, but there are no any written evidence to that confirm this theory.
Main reason behind all these brutal blood shading games was politics! With the help of these games the local Romans were taught how to attack the enemy when they attack in the other countries. Finally in the 404 centaury these brutal games were marked as illegal by the order of King Honorius but still the fights with the animals contoured to another centaury.
Fine piece of architecture:
This egg shaped building of old times took ten whole years to complete. This was the biggest building of its time. It was 157.5 feet high, 617 feet in length and 512 feet vertical size. In all three rings their were 80 round windows.
The battle ground made of wood was covered with sand (The sand was about 10 centi meters thick). Because of the egg shape it was impossible for any fighter to take cover in a corner. This also made easy view for the people. This whole building was made of limestone (travertine). Today the floor is no more but still walls and street ways can be seen. The underground tunnels can still be seen they were used to take care of waste water and also fill the Colosseum with the water to prepare the battle ground for under water battles.
This Colosseum was made so brilliant that some of its characteristics have been adopted by the modern stadiums of today. The sets have been divided in four different parts. First ring was for the Roman Senators and in that same ring was the place for the King. There were three rings for third grade people and last ring for average people and the top was for the ordinary poor civilians. The top area where only people can stand was for the local whores!
